Adkins will have a solo exhibition opening at the Mary and Leigh Block Museum of Art on January 11 and running through March 24, 2013.  
The Renaissance Society’s Director of Education and Associate Curator, Hamza Walker, will be on an opening reception panel with curators Naomi Beckwith of the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, artists Dawoud Bey and Theaster Gates, Tang Museum director Ian Berry, and Northwestern art history professor Huey Copeland. Reception at 2 pm; discussion at 3 pm.

Join us Sunday, January 6th, from 4 to 7pm for the opening reception of RH Quaytman’s solo exhibition, “Passing Through the Opposite of What It Approaches, Chapter 25”.  There will be an artist talk from 5 to 6pm in Kent Hall, Room 120.  RSVP (though not required) via Facebook.

Danh Vos’ “We The People” will only be on view at the University of Chicago through the end of the weekend.  If you haven’t seen these sculptures yet, make sure you make it down to Hyde Park before December 17th.

Danh Vo at The Renaissance Society

The Renaissance Society is very excited to announce Solveig Øvstebø as the first new Executive Director in nearly 40 years. Øvstebø is currently the director of Bergen Kunsthall in her native Norway. She is expected to start at The Renaissance Society in June 2013 and we can’t wait to welcome her to Chicago.

Over the next couple months we will be posting highlights from exhibitions curated and organized by Solveig in Norway. 

Christopher Williams, 1964 Renault Dauphine-Four (2000).  This photograph was included in the 2001 group exhibition Detourism curated by Hamza Walker.  Williams will have a solo exhibition at Kabinett fuer aktuelle Kunst, Bremerhaven opening November 18, 2012.  

Joëlle Tuerlinckx, Chicago Studies: Les Étants Donnés, Installation View (2003).  Tuerlinckx currently has a solo exhibition, WOR(LD)K IN PROGRESS?, on view at Wiels in Brussels through January 6, 2013.
